About us
Oak Bank was originally commissioned as a private house built in 1872. It became a hotel in 1920.
Glynis & Simon Wood have owned and managed Oak Bank Hotel since April 2007, ably assisted by a small team of loyal staff.
John Cook is Head Chef, who arrived in February 2009 and Dexton Gooden is Second Chef, the latest recruit, who joined in June 2009. They are both responsible for Oak Bank’s food and for the hotel being awarded an AA Rosette for Culinary Excellence in 2009 and then for Two AA Rosettes for Culinary Excellence awarded in April 2010. Michael Evans is Kitchen Porter/General Assistant and longest serving employee since Summer 2007. Marjorie Robinson is Oak Bank’s Housekeeper/Receptionist, who also arrived in February 2009, whilst Sonia Benavente Berlanga is a Waitress/Housekeeper who joined the team in June 2009.
Many of our Guests return to Oak Bank two, three or four times a year to enjoy the Lake District in the different seasons, whether it’s for strenuous mountain hikes, a walk around Lake Grasmere, an amble around the village, or just to completely relax.
Why do people come back repeatedly when there is so much choice for accommodation in the Lake District?
Maybe it’s because we take great pride in Oak Bank and the service we provide, or the quality of the food that constantly surprises first time guests and regulars alike?
It could be the comfortable sofas in the lounges that many a guest has grabbed forty winks on – just let us know before you fall asleep if you’d like waking!
Or maybe it’s because we enjoy what we do and it shows?
Maybe you’ll come and see whether you like Oak Bank and become one of our growing number of regular guests who regard Oak Bank as a home from home?
